Fisher & Paykel Microwave Repair

Microwave Repair, Done Right the First Time

Fisher & Paykel sells three genuinely different microwaves in the US — the OMD drawer that slides out of an island, the compact MO and CMO units built into a cabinetry column, and the CMOH and MOH over-the-range models that double as your rangehood — and each of the three goes wrong in its own way.

The microwave drawer is the one worth explaining first, because it fails unlike anything else in the kitchen. An OMD opens downward out of a cabinetry run instead of swinging a door outward, and it will not run at all until its interlocks are satisfied that the drawer has closed completely — so a drawer that has become stiff, slow or noisy is the early warning, and the microwave electronics behind it are usually still perfectly healthy. The Professional version carries a heavier stainless front than the Contemporary one, which works the same mechanism harder over the years.

An over-the-range CMOH or MOH is really two appliances in one housing, and the half that gets forgotten is the extraction. Grease filters above a busy cooktop are designed to be pulled out and washed; left too long they stop extracting properly and eventually let grease past into the unit itself, which is a far worse job than washing a filter would have been. The lamp lighting the cooktop underneath runs on its own circuit, so a dead bulb there says nothing about the microwave. The compact MO and CMO units stack into a cabinetry column instead, and on the convection-equipped CMO the two cooking systems fail separately — a unit that still browns but no longer heats quickly has a microwave-side problem, which narrows the diagnosis considerably. Whichever format you have, a microwave that arcs or sparks inside the cavity should be taken out of use and inspected before it is run again.

Microwave Repair FAQ

Yes, in three formats — the OMD microwave drawer in Contemporary and Professional trims, the compact MO and CMO units that build into a cabinetry column, and the CMOH and MOH over-the-range models. We also service other makes installed alongside your Fisher & Paykel appliances.

A drawer model will not run until its interlocks confirm the drawer has reached its fully closed position, so a mechanism that is stopping just short is a common cause. That is a drawer problem rather than a microwave problem, and it is repaired differently.

Yes — stop using it immediately. Arcing can point to a damaged interior surface or a magnetron issue that needs inspection before it's run again.

Often yes, though some latch or control-board repairs need a partial pull-out, which we handle carefully to protect the surrounding cabinetry.
