What Fault 9 Means
Fault 9 reports the PC sensor - the probe covering the cabinet's other compartment, the one F&P's problem tables label PC as distinct from the freezer side - reading above 45,000 ohms. As with the freezer probe, that is the signature of an open circuit in the sensor or its wiring rather than a real temperature.
Common Causes of Fault 9
- The sensor lead has parted inside its sleeve
- The connector at the power module has lost contact through corrosion
- The thermistor has failed open at the end of its service life
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Not a home check. What helps is watching whether that compartment has started overshooting cold or creeping warm, and whether the behavior changes when the door is left shut for a full day.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Kill the power at the socket before the panel comes off - the module that receives this sensor is the same board switching mains to the compressor.
- Confirming an open circuit means back-probing a live-looking connector correctly; get the wrong pin pair and a healthy sensor reads as failed.
- These probes are held in moulded pockets, and one refitted a few millimetres out reads the air stream rather than the compartment, so the new part misreads as badly as the old one.
- Trim panels in this area are clipped, not screwed, and a clip broken off inside the liner cannot be replaced without taking the liner apart.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
