What Fault 12 Means

Fault 12 is the over-current side of the same combined measurement: the low ambient heater, PC fan and FC fan together are drawing more current than the module expects. The documented sequence is identical - the shared six-way connector first, re-termination second, the power/control module last.

Common Causes of Fault 12

  • A short in the shared fan and heater wiring
  • A fan motor dragging on worn bearings and pulling excess current
  • A heater or fan winding that has partly shorted

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Leave it to a technician, but note any change in running noise. A fan that has begun to grind or surge loads its circuit heavily, and that observation narrows the search before anyone opens the cabinet.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Take the appliance off supply before anything behind the panels is investigated, since an over-current condition is the worst case to probe on a live circuit.
  • An over-current that has already passed through the module may have damaged its output stage, which is a separate check the repair should cover.
  • Leaving the cabinet running keeps an overloaded circuit connected to the board that reported it, which risks turning a fan repair into a module repair.
  • The three parts share one connector, so disturbing it to test one disturbs the other two at the same time.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Fault 12 FAQ

From this code alone you do not, and neither does the module. That is why F&P has a technician check the shared connector first and then narrow down to the individual parts.

Not an emergency, but book it rather than living with it - an over-current condition tends to worsen rather than settle.
