What F1 04 Means
F1 04 is a communication error logged by the clock board: the power board is not responding in time, or not responding at all. Unlike F1 01, the link was established at some point - what has failed is the conversation across it. The documented checks are the connection first and the power board second.
Common Causes of F1 04
- A degraded connector on the communication harness
- A harness damaged by heat where it passes the cavity
- A power board that has stopped responding
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
A breaker reset for two minutes is worth one attempt. Note whether the display works normally right up until the moment the problem appears, since that distinguishes a link that drops from one that never forms.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Switch off at the breaker before the harness is traced, because it shares its route with the mains supply to the elements.
- A link that drops intermittently is usually a connector under thermal movement, which testing cold will not reproduce.
- Replacing the power board on a communication error is a frequent and expensive miss when the harness was the problem.
- The harness runs in a channel that keeps it clear of the cavity; refitted outside that channel it lies against hot metal and the insulation melts through.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
