What Fault 13 Means
Fault 13 concerns the low ambient heater - a small element F&P fits so the cabinet still behaves correctly when the room around it is cold, such as a garage or an unheated utility. The module has measured less current through that heater than it should, which the manual attributes to an open circuit in the heater or its wiring.
Common Causes of Fault 13
- The heater element has gone open circuit
- A disconnected or broken lead between the heater and the module
- A connector that has worked loose with cabinet vibration
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Worth knowing where your refrigerator actually lives: if it stands somewhere that drops below normal room temperature in winter, this heater matters to you, and if it sits in a heated kitchen the effect of the problem will be much less noticeable day to day.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Isolate the appliance before the rear cover comes off, because the heater is a mains-powered element and its terminals are live whenever the cabinet is plugged in.
- Low current through the circuit can come from the heater, the loom, or the switching side of the module, and only a measured comparison separates them.
- A heater fitted in the wrong position or with the wrong rating changes the thermal balance of the cabinet rather than restoring it.
- The rear cover doubles as part of the airflow path around the condenser, and refitted skew it leaves the compressor running hotter than designed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
