What F4 Means
F4 is essentially the mirror image of F3: the control board switched the heating element on but saw no temperature rise whatsoever, which points to an open-circuit or disconnected element, or a sensor that's failed at reading the water temperature.
Common Causes of F4
- The heating element burned out or open-circuited
- The temperature sensor, or the circuit that digitizes its reading, has failed
- Heater terminals corroded by hard-water scale or moisture

There's no homeowner-safe way to check this — pinning down whether it's the element or the sensor circuit needs multimeter testing on a completely de-energized unit, which is a job for a technician.

- Because the element sits submerged at the bottom of the tub, working near it before the unit is fully drained and powered down is a genuine electrocution risk.

- Fitting a replacement element that doesn't match the original's wattage and mounting spec exactly can send it into the same safety cutoff over and over.
