What Fault 1 Means
On F&P's ActiveSmart platform, Fault 1 means the power/control module failed its own self-test at power-up — a board-level failure the control system caught on its own, signaled through a counted alarm beep or a matching binary LED pattern instead of any on-screen text.
Common Causes of Fault 1
- The power/control module has failed
- Surge damage, commonly following storms or outages
- Loose or corroded connectors on the board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Attempt a full reset — unplug for a full two minutes, then restore power — and if Fault 1 comes right back, that confirms a genuine control board fault rather than a one-off glitch.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Since the control module governs every safety interlock in the fridge, including the compressor's start relay, reseating it incorrectly can damage the compressor.
- A control board can retain a charge for a short while even after being unplugged, so handling one without discharging it first risks a shock.
- Because boards are model-specific, ordering and fitting the wrong revision is a common and costly error.
- A board installed incorrectly can set off an entirely different fault, which only slows down and raises the cost of the next diagnosis.
- Access to the control board generally means removing rear panels near line-voltage wiring — not a repair suited to a first-timer.
