What Fault 10 Means
Fault 10 pairs with Fault 9 on the same PC compartment probe, but in the other direction: resistance under 660 ohms. F&P's table records that as the sensor circuit being shorted - the two conductors joined somewhere they should not be - and the board therefore reads an impossibly warm value.
Common Causes of Fault 10
- Condensation bridging the sensor pins inside the connector shell
- A crushed lead where the loom passes a fixing point
- Internal failure of the thermistor to a short
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing you can safely verify yourself; note instead whether the compartment has begun to over-cool, which is the typical sign when the control system is handed a falsely warm number.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- De-energise the cabinet before opening anything, since the short being chased shares a loom run with the mains feed and a probe that slips is a shock risk.
- Moisture-caused shorts come and go with the weather, so a reading taken without understanding that history sends the wrong part out on the van.
- Replacing the probe without curing the water ingress simply resets the clock on the same failure.
- The connector shells here are keyed and brittle when cold; forced back together they crack and then never grip the pins properly again.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
