What E5 Means
E5 is one of F&P's cook zone codes, shown on the display of the zone that raised it rather than shutting the whole cooktop down. The service manual's entry against E5 is the remedy rather than a description: change the filter board - the board that conditions incoming mains before it reaches the induction electronics.
Common Causes of E5
- A failed mains filter board
- Supply disturbance that has damaged the filter stage
- A connection lost between the filter board and the power unit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the cooktop off at the breaker for two minutes and restore power once. That is the only owner-level step; a code that returns is pointing at the hardware the manual names.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The cooktop has to be dead at the breaker before the underside is opened, because the filter board sits directly on the incoming mains.
- Filter boards carry parts that hold a charge after isolation, so they are not safe to handle immediately after switching off.
- F&P names one board here, but a supply problem that damaged it may have reached the power unit as well, which needs checking rather than assuming.
- Getting underneath means releasing the clamps that hold the cooktop down into the worktop, and those are reached blind from below the counter.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
