What 10 Means
Fault 10 means the water temperature sensor may be open circuit. F&P gives the reference values plainly - 10,000 ohms at 77°F (25°C), or 12,500 ohms at 68°F (20°C) - so the sensor can be measured against a known figure rather than guessed at. The same code and meaning run across SmartDrive phases 1 to 6, where the manual adds that it applies to the Intuitive and GW models.
Common Causes of 10
- A thermistor that has gone open circuit
- A loose or corroded connection in the thermistor circuit
- A break in the lead between the sensor and the module
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Not an owner test, but one sign is worth reporting: washes that have started arriving at the wrong temperature, particularly warm cycles running cold, are what a machine with no usable temperature reading produces.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the washer before the sensor circuit is reached, because the thermistor harness runs alongside the mains feed into the module.
- A resistance reading only means something measured at a known temperature and compared against the right reference, so a number read out of context condemns a working sensor.
- F&P puts the connection ahead of the sensor in its sequence, and reversing that is how people pay for a part that was never failing.
- On SmartDrive machines the reference figure differs from the ambient assumption most meters are used at, so the check needs doing properly rather than roughly.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
