What 41 Means

Fault 41 is raised when the temperature sensor reports water above 230°F (110°C) - a reading no domestic washer will ever produce, since water boils well below it. F&P states the most likely explanation directly: a short circuit in the sensor line.

Common Causes of 41

  • A short circuit in the thermistor line
  • Moisture bridging the sensor connector pins
  • A thermistor that has failed to a short internally

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

There is nothing to measure at home. What helps is noting whether the machine has started refusing to heat, since a module told the water is already scalding will not call for any more heat at all.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Unplug the machine before the sensor wiring is investigated, since a shorted low-voltage line can share a loom with mains wiring and the two are not obvious apart.
  • The documented reference is the same as for Fault 10, so measuring against the wrong figure or the wrong ambient gives a confident wrong answer either way.
  • Drying a damp connector is not a repair unless the route the water took has been found and closed.
  • A short that has already reached the module may have damaged its input, which is a second check the repair should include.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

41 FAQ

Very plausibly. A module reading 230°F believes the water is far hotter than any program needs, so it stops calling for heat entirely.

No - that is the point of the code. It is an impossible value, which is how the module knows it is looking at a short rather than at hot water.
