What 234 Means
Fault 234 reports the lid lock circuit as open. F&P asks for the harness to the lid lock and the connections at both ends - the motor control module and the lock itself - to be checked, and for the lid to be verified as having a proper tang and correct fitment before anything is replaced. The same code and meaning appear on SmartDrive phase 6 machines.
Common Causes of 234
- A break in the lid lock harness
- A connector off at the lock or at the module
- A lid lock coil that has gone open circuit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the lid closes fully and that the tang drops into its slot rather than resting on the edge, and take anything stored on the lid off. A lid held fractionally proud will not let the lock engage.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the lid area is opened, because the lock circuit is fed from the mains side of the module.
- The lid lock keeps the lid shut while the drum is spinning, so it is not a device to bypass in order to finish a load.
- An open circuit inside intact-looking insulation is invisible and only shows on a continuity test, so a look at the plug proves nothing.
- Lid mechanisms are set so the tang engages precisely, and one reassembled out of alignment never locks reliably again.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
