What 232 Means
Fault 232 is a five second communications timeout, described in both the AquaSmart and SmartDrive manuals as an IW-only problem: either the display module or the motor control module has failed to respond within that window. The remedy names both modules, which again makes isolation the actual work.
Common Causes of 232
- A connector degraded between display and motor control
- Moisture in the console interrupting the link
- A module that has stopped answering within the allowed window
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine for five minutes. A timeout that does not return after a proper power-down was a one-off; one that appears on every start is a real break in the exchange.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Take the machine off supply before the console is opened, since the communication harness runs with mains wiring.
- Because the documented remedy names both modules, replacing one on a guess leaves a coin-toss chance of having solved nothing.
- A five second window is long, so a timeout here means a genuine failure to respond rather than a marginal delay.
- Console seals on these machines are single-use in practice, and one not reseated leaves the next spill free to reach the boards.
