What 240 Means
Fault 240 is documented as a hall sensor out of order or rotor position sensor problem, and F&P notes it is the same as previous hall errors - or that an incorrect rotor has been installed. The manual refers the technician back to the procedure for error 130 or to verifying the rotor.
Common Causes of 240
- A failed hall or rotor position sensor
- An incorrect rotor fitted during a previous repair
- Corrosion or water damage at the sensor connectors
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine and check the drum turns freely. Then, if the washer has had any motor work done, say so - an incorrect rotor is named in the documentation as a cause of this exact code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the stator area is reached, because it is a mains-fed part sitting directly behind the drum.
- Fitting a rotor from another machine gives a magnet pattern the sensor cannot read correctly, which is a repair that creates this problem rather than curing it.
- F&P's check uses a dedicated sensor tester, and an ordinary meter cannot verify the pattern the module is objecting to.
- Rotor bolts are torqued to a specification, and one reassembled loose will wander out of position and reproduce the problem.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
