What 14 (SmartDrive) Means
Fault 14 is the inverse of Fault 13 on Phase 1 machines: the display module has detected that the pump is not on when it should be. The same check list applies - thermal cutout, blockage or seizure, winding continuity, harness and connectors, and finally the display module.
Common Causes of 14 (SmartDrive)
- A pump thermal cutout that has operated and not yet reset
- An open circuit pump winding
- A break in the pump harness or a connector off
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug and check the drain hose for a kink, then look at whether anything obvious has collected at the pump. A pump that has cut out thermally will also need time to cool before it will restart.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the washer before the pump area is opened, and expect the tub to still be holding water since it has not drained.
- A cold pump that measures open circuit is a different repair from a hot pump that has simply cut out, and the difference is a wait rather than a part.
- Connectors at the pump sit low in the machine where water reaches them, so corrosion there can mimic a failed winding.
- Tipping the machine to reach the pump with a full tub puts water everywhere the pump was supposed to keep it out of.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
