What 134 (SmartDrive) Means
Fault 134 is a Phase 4 code recording two problems at the same instant: excessive motor current and a rotor position sensor error together. F&P refers the technician to both the error 130 and the error 132 procedures, because either could be driving the other.
Common Causes of 134 (SmartDrive)
- A jam or mechanical drag loading the motor while position feedback is lost
- A rotor position sensor problem causing the module to drive the motor wrongly
- Water or corrosion affecting both the sensor and the drive circuit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine and turn the drum by hand. Whether it moves freely matters here, because a jam that loads the motor can produce both halves of this code at once.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before anything near the stator is touched, because the current this code describes is the full motor drive current.
- Two simultaneous problems can share one cause, so treating them as separate jobs risks fixing one and leaving the other to recreate it.
- Driving a motor without valid position feedback is what produces excess current in the first place, so further start attempts make things worse.
- F&P's rotor position check uses a purpose-made tester, and an ordinary meter cannot verify the pattern the module is objecting to.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
