What Fault 1 Means
Fault 1 on F&P's legacy US dryer platform is a communications failure between the sensor module and the motor control module. The two boards split the work between them, and when they stop talking the dryer stops rather than running blind. The documented remedies start with the harness that connects them.
Common Causes of Fault 1
- A break in the harness between the two modules
- A connector not fully seated at either board
- A module that has stopped communicating
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dryer off at the breaker for two minutes and back on. A single dropped exchange clears there; one that returns every time means the link itself is broken.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Isolate the dryer at the breaker before any panel is removed, because both modules sit on mains-fed circuits.
- F&P's sequence puts harness continuity before either module, and reversing that order is the expensive way round.
- Fisher & Paykel no longer sells dryers in the United States, so a module has to be matched by exact reference rather than picked from a current range.
- A connector reseated without being tested can seem to fix the problem and then fail again once the dryer warms up and the harness moves.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
