What Fault 2 Means

Fault 2 means the dryer could not locate the drum gap. F&P's design puts sensing bumps on the outside of the drum and reads them through a lens, which is how the control knows the drum is turning and where it is. The remedies run from sensor module placement and the lens, through cleaning the drum bumps, to the drum itself.

Common Causes of Fault 2

  • A dirty or clouded sensor lens
  • Sensing bumps on the drum exterior obscured by lint or residue
  • The sensor module out of position relative to the drum

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Nothing to reach without opening the cabinet, but one thing helps: note whether the drum turns at all. A drum that rotates while this problem is logged points at the sensing rather than the drive.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Switch the dryer off at the breaker before the cabinet is opened, because the heater circuit inside runs at mains voltage.
  • The sensor module has to sit at a set distance from the drum, and one refitted by eye reads unreliably even when clean.
  • Cleaning the lens with anything abrasive leaves a haze that behaves exactly like the dirt you were removing.
  • Lint that has built up enough to obscure the drum bumps is usually a sign of a wider airflow problem worth checking at the same time.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
