What Fault 6 Means
Fault 6 is a user warning rather than a part failure. F&P describes it plainly: the door is unable to close, either because clothes are catching or because the closing load is excessive. The remedies begin with removing the obstruction and repositioning the load.
Common Causes of Fault 6
- Clothing caught in the door opening
- A load pressed too tightly against the door
- A door binding on its hinge or seal
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the door, push the load back from the opening, and check nothing is hanging over the lip. Then close it again - this is a warning the manual expects the user to resolve.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Switch the dryer off at the breaker before anything more than the load is investigated, because the heater sits immediately behind the drum.
- Forcing the door shut against a load damages the seal, which then leaks warm air and hurts drying performance permanently.
- A door that binds even when empty is a hinge or alignment problem rather than a loading one, and needs adjusting rather than pushing.
- Repeatedly slamming the door to make it latch wears the catch until it stops holding at all.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
