What F3 Means
F3 fires when the control board measures tub water above 80°C (176°F) — far hotter than any normal wash calls for. The usual culprits are a heating element that's stuck on, a temperature sensor giving a bad reading, or household hot water arriving too hot to begin with.
Common Causes of F3
- The heating element stuck in the on position, continuing past its safe cutoff
- An inaccurate reading from a faulty temperature sensor
- The household hot water supply itself running too hot
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Run your kitchen hot tap and see how hot it gets — scalding tap water usually means the household water heater is set too high, which can set off F3 even when the DishDrawer itself is fine; dialing the heater back to around 120°F (49°C) clears this particular cause without any repair.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An element stuck in the on position is still carrying live voltage inside a wet tub, so testing it without cutting power completely is a real electrocution risk.
- At 80°C or above, this is genuinely scald-hot water, so opening the drawer or reaching in before things cool down risks a serious burn.
- A too-hot water supply and a genuinely failed element look identical from the outside, and swapping the element when the water heater setting was the real issue is an expensive, common misdiagnosis.
- Since the sensor and the heating circuit share the same wiring path, poking at one while testing the other risks creating a second, unrelated problem.
- Getting into the base and tub area to test the heating circuit generally forfeits whatever warranty is left.
