What Fault 12 Means
Fault 12 concerns the device that switches the lid lock rather than the lock itself. F&P's steps are to verify no short circuits exist and to confirm that the lid lock resistance falls between 50 and 100 ohms before considering sensor module replacement.
Common Causes of Fault 12
- A short circuit in the lid lock wiring
- A lid lock coil outside the 50 to 100 ohm range
- A failed switching device on the sensor module
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing to measure at home, but confirm the lid closes cleanly and nothing is obstructing the tongue - a mechanical problem can put unexpected load on the switching device.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Switch the dryer off at the breaker before the lock circuit is investigated, since a short circuit on a mains-derived supply is not something to probe live.
- A coil measured outside its range through a damaged harness reads as failed when it is not, so the wiring is tested first.
- A short that has already passed through the switching device may have damaged it, which needs checking rather than assuming.
- Repeated attempts to start with a shorted lock circuit put the same error back through the module every time.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
