What F2 04 Means

F2 04 is a communication error seen from the power board: the clock board is not responding in time, or not responding at all. The checks are the clock board connection and then the clock board itself - the mirror image of F1 04.

Common Causes of F2 04

  • A connector degraded on the board-to-board harness
  • Heat damage to the harness where it passes the cavity
  • A clock board that has stopped communicating

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Try one two-minute reset at the breaker. What is worth observing is whether the display stays alive while the code is present, because a working display with a broken link points at the harness rather than the board.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Switch off at the breaker before the harness is traced, as it runs alongside mains wiring for its whole length.
  • Intermittent communication errors are driven by thermal movement and rarely reproduce on a cold appliance, so the test has to be done properly.
  • Swapping the clock board on a communication code is an easy mistake when the connector was to blame.
  • The interconnecting loom sits in a routing channel that keeps it off hot metal, and one refitted outside that channel will fail again in months.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F2 04 FAQ

Often neither. Each board reports that the other has gone quiet, which is exactly what a bad connector between them produces.

It will usually refuse to heat, which is the safe outcome, but leave it off at the breaker if it behaves erratically rather than simply refusing.
