What A2 Means

A2 is a user alert on F&P ranges: a self clean cycle was started and the door could not be locked. Because self clean will not run without that lock engaged, the cycle stops before it heats. The documented remedy is to power the range off, wait ten seconds, power it back on, reset the clock, and try again with the door firmly closed.

Common Causes of A2

  • The door not fully closed when self clean was started
  • Something obstructing the lock bolt or the strike
  • A lock motor or switch that is not driving the mechanism

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Follow the manual's own sequence. Make sure nothing - a rack handle, a foil edge, a towel over the handle - is stopping the door sitting fully shut, then power cycle and retry with the door pushed properly home.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Make sure the cavity is cold before anything around the door is checked, because a failed self clean attempt can still have left real heat inside.
  • The lock is what keeps the door shut through a cycle that drives the cavity far hotter than any cooking setting, so it is not a part to defeat in order to make self clean run.
  • Forcing a lock bolt that is binding warps the strike plate, after which the door never locks or releases cleanly again.
  • Reaching the mechanism means removing the inner door panel, which holds the layered glass in its clips, and the panes rarely sit square again afterwards.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

A2 FAQ

Usually yes - ordinary cooking does not need the door locked. It is self clean specifically that will not proceed.

That the alert was a sign rather than the problem. A lock that fails to engage twice is a mechanism problem and should be looked at before another attempt.
