What F5 Means

F5 records a communications error between the clock module and the power module on the oven side of the range. The clock module is the display and controls; the power module switches the heat. F&P asks for the connections between the two to be checked, and for the power module to be replaced if the problem stays.

Common Causes of F5

  • A loose or corroded connector on the harness between the modules
  • Harness damage where the loom passes close to the cavity
  • A power module that has stopped responding

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Cut power at the breaker for two minutes before assuming hardware has failed - that rules out a momentary drop on the link. Note whether the display stays lit while the code is showing, because a live display with a broken link points at the wiring rather than the console.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Switch off at the breaker before the harness is traced, since it runs alongside the mains supply for most of its length.
  • The problem can sit at either end of the link, so fitting a module on a guess has roughly even odds of being the wrong one.
  • A connector reseated slightly off can appear to cure it and then fail again once the range is back in normal use, which wastes the visit.
  • The loom sits in a routing channel that keeps it clear of the cavity, and one refitted outside that channel lies against hot metal until the insulation melts through.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F5 FAQ

It does. Your commands have to cross this link to reach the board that switches the elements, so a broken link leaves the controls apparently dead even though the display works.

F4 is a problem inside the power module itself; F5 is the conversation between that module and the clock module failing, which is more often a connector than a board.
