What 134 (SmartDrive) Means

Fault 134 is a Phase 4 code recording two problems at the same instant: excessive motor current and a rotor position sensor error together. F&P refers the technician to both the error 130 and the error 132 procedures, because either could be driving the other.

Common Causes of 134 (SmartDrive)

  • A jam or mechanical drag loading the motor while position feedback is lost
  • A rotor position sensor problem causing the module to drive the motor wrongly
  • Water or corrosion affecting both the sensor and the drive circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Unplug the machine and turn the drum by hand. Whether it moves freely matters here, because a jam that loads the motor can produce both halves of this code at once.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Unplug the machine before anything near the stator is touched, because the current this code describes is the full motor drive current.
  • Two simultaneous problems can share one cause, so treating them as separate jobs risks fixing one and leaving the other to recreate it.
  • Driving a motor without valid position feedback is what produces excess current in the first place, so further start attempts make things worse.
  • F&P's rotor position check uses a purpose-made tester, and an ordinary meter cannot verify the pattern the module is objecting to.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

134 (SmartDrive) FAQ

That is exactly what the technician has to establish, and it is why F&P points at two procedures rather than one. A bad sensor can cause the current spike, and a jam can cause both.

It carries more information rather than more severity - it tells you the position sensing was also wrong at the moment the current spiked.
