What 136 Means
Fault 136 is a motor stall - the control module tried to start the motor and could not. It is documented on AquaSmart and across SmartDrive phases 1 to 6, with nominal motor harness resistance figures given per phase so a technician can tell an electrical problem from a mechanical one.
Common Causes of 136
- A jammed basket, seized bearing, or failed seal
- A failing motor harness or connector
- A failed rotor position sensor or motor control module
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine and try to turn the agitator and the basket by hand. Free movement points at the electrical side; resistance or a grinding feel points at the mechanical side, and either answer shortens the visit.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before reaching into the drum or under the agitator, because the drive is directly beneath and a stalled motor can start without warning when power returns.
- Turning the drum by force to unstick it can damage the bearing that was merely stiff.
- The correct resistance figure differs between SmartDrive phases and AquaSmart, so a reading compared against the wrong reference gives a false verdict.
- A stalled motor draws heavy current, and repeated start attempts put that straight through the module.
