What 230 Means
Fault 230 is raised when a stored value falls outside the range the software accepts, and F&P annotates it as the wrong version being detected. The SmartDrive documentation is blunter still: the motor control module is the wrong version. Either way the machine is running software and hardware that do not belong together.
Common Causes of 230
- A motor control module of the wrong software version
- A module taken from a different model in the range
- A stored value corrupted beyond the accepted range
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing to reset. The single most valuable thing you can supply is the machine's repair history, because a module fitted from another washer is the usual route to this code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the module is reached, because it sits directly on the incoming mains supply.
- Fitting another module of unknown version simply repeats the mistake that caused the code.
- Versions are not visible from the outside of a module, so this is a parts-reference job rather than a visual match.
- These washers are no longer supplied new in the United States, which makes getting the version right first time more important than usual.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
