What 249 Means
Fault 249 means that while draining, the water level from the pressure sensor did not change for three minutes. The machine has been running the pump and the level has simply stayed put, which F&P attributes to blockages in the pump system or to the machine being by-passed.
Common Causes of 249
- A blockage in the pump, flapper, or drain ports
- A kinked or over-long drain hose
- An outlet height beyond what the pump can lift against
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine and check the drain hose along its whole run for a kink or a sharp bend, then check where it discharges. A hose crushed behind the machine is the commonest reason a pump runs without achieving anything.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the pump is opened and expect a full tub, because a drain timeout means the water is still in there.
- Foreign objects around the flapper and the drain ports have to be removed rather than pushed through, or they simply lodge further down.
- Pump hood orientation is specified, and one refitted backwards restricts the flow the pump was struggling with already.
- Bailing a full tub by hand and tipping the machine to reach the pump are both jobs that end with water across the floor.
