What 250 Means
Fault 250 is a loss of synchronization in the SmartPump, and F&P is specific about why it usually happens: an object has got into the pump, either under or on top of the impeller, and is stalling the motor as it tries to start. The reference figures given are 8.1 ohms per phase and 16.2 ohms across two phases, both within ten per cent.
Common Causes of 250
- A foreign object jammed at the impeller
- A pump stator winding open circuit
- Lint packed into the pump restricting the impeller
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine, then think back to what went into the last few loads. Coins, hairpins, underwires and small buttons are exactly the objects that end up wedged against an impeller.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the washer and be ready for standing water before the pump is opened, because a pump that cannot start has not drained the tub.
- Anything sharp lodged at an impeller should be looked at with a light rather than felt for, since underwires and glass both turn up there.
- A motor that has repeatedly tried to start against a jam may have suffered for it, so the winding is worth measuring even after the object is out.
- The resistance figures differ depending on whether you measure one phase or across two, and comparing against the wrong one condemns a healthy pump.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
