What F7 Means

F7 flags a door-lock problem — the door isn't in the state the control board expects during a cycle that calls for it to be locked or unlocked, and it's the code most often logged when a self-clean run gets stuck partway through.

Common Causes of F7

  • The door lock motor or solenoid has failed
  • The door lock mechanism physically jammed
  • A failing door switch, or the temperature sensor feeding the lock-release logic

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Leave the door alone rather than forcing it. Cut power at the breaker and let the oven cool all the way down — many door-lock-related self-clean lockouts release on their own once interior temperature falls back to a normal range.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Self-clean can leave the cavity sitting well above 800°F, so forcing a locked door open at that heat risks a serious burn.
  • Because the lock solenoid draws off the same high-voltage circuit as the heating elements, testing it while powered is a genuine shock hazard.
  • Muscling a jammed lock mechanism can warp the strike plate, leaving the door harder to lock and unlock correctly from that point on.
  • If the lock goes back together even slightly out of alignment, it can refuse to release again even after the problem is supposedly "fixed."
  • Reaching the lock mechanism means removing the inner door panel, which holds the layered door glass in its clips, and the panes seldom sit square again once it has been apart.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F7 FAQ

Let it come down in temperature on its own instead of prying at the door — self-clean can reach 800-900°F, and forcing a hot door open is a real burn risk.

Not automatically — an isolated lockout can just be a glitch, but if F7 keeps coming back, that's a sign the lock mechanism itself is wearing out and needs to be replaced.
