What Fault 43 Means

Fault 43 is the open-circuit reading on the same fill tube heater that produces Fault 42 when shorted. Again F&P records it as raising no audio alarm, and again the action is to measure the heater's resistance and replace it if the value is outside limits.

Common Causes of Fault 43

  • A fill tube heater element that has gone open circuit
  • A broken lead or disconnected terminal at the heater
  • A connector that has worked loose in the ice maker bay

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Nothing to measure yourself. If ice production has become erratic or the tray is being partly filled, mention it - that pattern fits a fill tube that keeps icing up between batches.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Take the appliance off supply before reaching into the ice maker bay, because its neighbouring parts run at mains voltage.
  • An open circuit can be in the element or in the lead, and only measuring at the right point separates the two.
  • The ice maker comes out on a short loom, and pulling it further than that loom allows parts the very wiring being investigated.
  • Silent problems like this one accumulate, so a technician will want the whole log rather than just the code that prompted the call.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Fault 43 FAQ

If ice production is suffering, yes - a fill tube that freezes between batches gradually stops the ice maker working at all. If everything still works, it can reasonably wait for the next visit.

Same heater, opposite failure. 42 is a short circuit and 43 is an open one, and both are logged without an audible alarm.
