What EC4 Means
EC4 means the brushless wash motor has run too hot. F&P's first instruction is a visual check of the wash pump for a blockage, and replacement of the pump if it has failed - because a motor working against an obstruction is the usual reason one overheats.
Common Causes of EC4
- Debris restricting the wash pump or its intake
- A blocked filter forcing the pump to work against resistance
- A pump whose bearings are dragging and loading the motor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Once the machine has cooled, take the filters out and clear the sump of anything that has collected - labels, seeds, fragments of bone. Restricted flow makes the pump work harder and is the cheapest explanation for this code.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Let the machine cool and switch it off at the breaker before reaching into the sump, since an overheated motor and a live heating element are both in there.
- Clearing the visible debris without finding why it collected leaves the same restriction to rebuild over the next few loads.
- Overheating from a blockage and overheating from worn bearings look identical from the front, and only one is fixed by cleaning.
- Sump debris frequently includes glass, so anything felt for blind rather than looked at with a light is a genuine risk.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
