What 57 Means
Fault 57 records a brown-out caught mid-write. The display asked the motor control module to commit something to EEPROM, and while that write was under way the supply voltage dropped below the level the module considers safe for it. F&P's action is replacement of the motor control module.
Common Causes of 57
- A supply voltage dip during a memory write
- An unstable or overloaded household circuit
- A module whose internal supply no longer holds up under load
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug for five minutes and restore power once. Then think about the supply: a machine on a circuit shared with something that draws heavily, or in a home with frequent dips, is the context this code describes.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the module is reached, since it is mounted directly on the incoming mains circuit.
- A write interrupted part-way can leave memory in a state that produces unrelated-looking problems later, so the log is worth reading in full rather than acting on this code alone.
- Fitting a module while the supply problem is still present puts the new one in exactly the position that killed the old one.
- Fisher & Paykel no longer sells washers in the United States, so a module has to be matched by exact reference rather than picked from a current range.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
