What 46 Means
Fault 46 is the display module reporting a problem with its own internal EEPROM - the memory holding settings that must survive being unplugged. F&P names the display module as the part to replace, distinguishing this from the motor control module problems that carry similar-sounding descriptions.
Common Causes of 46
- A failed EEPROM device on the display module
- Settings data corrupted by an interrupted write
- Age-related failure of the console electronics
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Give it one full power-down of five minutes. Beyond that there is nothing at the front panel that reaches this memory.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the console comes apart, because the module behind it sits on a mains-fed harness.
- Electronics this age are static-sensitive, and a module handled without care can be damaged before it is even fitted.
- Fitting a display without the machine's configuration being restored afterwards swaps one problem for a setup problem.
- Console fascias on these machines are bonded at the edges, and levered apart they seldom sit flush again.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
