What 104 Means
Fault 104 is one of the codes F&P routes straight to the error 106 procedure rather than describing separately. It sits in the display-to-motor-control family on both the AquaSmart platform and SmartDrive phases 2 to 6, and it means the exchange between the two boards has gone wrong in a way the module files alongside its other communication errors.
Common Causes of 104
- A poor contact on the harness linking display and motor control
- Damp in the console interfering with the signal
- A board no longer holding up its end of the exchange
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine for five minutes and restore power once. If the washer then completes a full cycle without complaint, the exchange recovered on its own.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the washer before the console is opened, since the harness between the boards is routed with the mains feed.
- F&P points this code at the error 106 procedure, which treats either board as a candidate - so replacing one on a hunch is a coin toss.
- Console damp is a recurring theme on top-loaders, and wiping a connector dry without tracing the water back leaves the same error queued up.
- The console housing is sealed against splashes from below, and one refitted without that seal seated invites the next overfill straight onto the boards.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
