What 13 (SmartDrive) Means
Fault 13 on Phase 1 SmartDrive machines means the display module has detected the pump running when it should be stopped. F&P's checks start with the pump's thermal cutout and a possible seizure, move through winding resistance and the harness, and end at the display module.
Common Causes of 13 (SmartDrive)
- A pump thermal cutout that has operated
- A seized or blocked pump
- A pump circuit held on by a problem in the control module
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine and let it stand for half an hour if the pump has been running hard, because F&P's first check is whether the thermal cutout has tripped and needs to cool before anything else is tested.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine and allow the pump to cool before it is handled, since a cutout that has operated means the motor has been hot enough to protect itself.
- A pump that is genuinely stuck on and a module that is failing to switch it off need entirely different repairs.
- Opening the pump while the tub still holds water empties it onto the floor.
- Winding resistance has to be measured against the right reference for the phase, and the figures differ across SmartDrive generations.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
