What 7 (SmartDrive) Means
Fault 7 spans SmartDrive phases 1 to 6 and reports that the display module has found a memory problem. What makes it unusual is the recommended action: F&P asks for the machine to be turned off at the wall and back on after five seconds, and for the cycle to be tried again, rather than going straight to a part.
Common Causes of 7 (SmartDrive)
- A transient memory problem in the display module
- A brief supply interruption during a memory operation
- A memory device in the console beginning to fail
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Follow the manual exactly - off at the wall, five seconds, on again, and start the cycle. Because that is the documented remedy, there is a real chance you resolve this one yourself.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- If the problem persists past the documented restart, unplug the machine before the console is opened, since the display harness runs with mains wiring.
- A code that returns after every restart is no longer transient, and continuing to reset it hides how often it is really happening.
- Display modules differ between SmartDrive phases, so a part matched on appearance rather than phase will not work.
- The console is directly above the tub on these machines, so an unsealed housing collects moisture quickly.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
