What 34 (SmartDrive) Means
Fault 34 reports that the circuit controlling the braking of the motor is failing. On a direct drive machine the motor is also the brake, and energy taken out of a spinning drum has to be dissipated somewhere - that is what the brake resistor circuit does. F&P names the motor control module first and the display module second.
Common Causes of 34 (SmartDrive)
- A failed brake resistor circuit on the control module
- A module unable to dissipate braking energy correctly
- A display module problem affecting the braking command
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine and leave it. A braking problem means the drum may not stop as quickly as it should, and that is not a condition to keep testing by starting more cycles.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine and do not run it while this problem is present, because braking is what brings a loaded drum to a stop and a lid that opens on a still-turning drum is a real injury risk.
- Brake circuits dissipate energy as heat, so parts in that area can be hot well after the machine has stopped.
- F&P's sequence swaps the motor control module first and the display second, and doing both at once removes the ability to tell which failed.
- A module fitted without its configuration step will log setup problems instead of fixing the braking one.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
