What F3 Means
F3 registers when the oven detects a cavity temperature above 600°F (315°C) during normal cooking, outside of any self-clean cycle — a temperature the oven has no business reaching under ordinary use. It's usually traced to an element stuck on, a failed temperature sensor, or a cooling fan malfunction letting heat build unchecked.
Common Causes of F3
- The heating element jammed in the "on" position
- A failed or drifting temperature sensor feeding the control board a falsely low reading
- A malfunctioning cooling fan letting cavity heat run unchecked

This isn't one to test at home — figuring out whether it's the element or the sensor takes multimeter work on a de-energized oven, which belongs to a technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An element stuck on at this temperature is both a burn and fire hazard, and testing it without fully isolating power adds a shock risk to the mix.
- It's easy to mistake this for a plain element issue; replacing the wrong part while the actual runaway condition goes unaddressed is both costly and unsafe.
- Positioned inside the cavity near the broil element, the temperature sensor can take the surrounding insulation with it if removed carelessly.
- The safety cutoff exists precisely to halt a genuine over-temperature event, so resetting or bypassing it repeatedly without addressing the actual cause undermines the whole point of having it.
- Opening the rear panel or cavity to reach these parts generally forfeits whatever warranty remains.
