What 247 Means
Fault 247 means water is being drained when it should be recirculating. The SmartPump uses a flapper to choose between sending water back into the tub and sending it down the drain, and F&P names a flapper stuck in the drain position as the most likely cause.
Common Causes of 247
- A flapper stuck in the drain position
- A broken or damaged flapper
- Debris preventing the flapper from swinging freely
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the machine, drain what you can, and check whether anything obvious has lodged in the pump area. The flapper is a moving part in a path that collects lint and small objects.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the washer and expect water before the pump housing is opened, because this problem means water has been going down the drain that should have stayed in the machine.
- Forcing a stuck flapper by hand snaps it, and a broken flapper cannot recirculate at all rather than merely doing it badly.
- The pump housing seals on a gasket that does not reseat reliably, which is how a repaired machine starts leaking underneath.
- A flapper that sticks intermittently behaves perfectly on a bench test and fails again under real flow.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
