What Fault 27 Means
Fault 27 records the ice maker motor pulling more current than it should. F&P's documented first step is to look for an obstruction, then to clear it, test the motor's operation, and measure the gearbox motor's resistance against limits before condemning the motor.
Common Causes of Fault 27
- Something physically obstructing the ejector or tray
- A stiff or partly seized gearbox loading the motor
- A motor winding that has begun to fail
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Empty the ice bin completely and check nothing has fallen into the ice maker - a stray item wedged against the ejector loads the motor exactly the way this code describes.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Take the plug out before reaching into the bay, since the ice maker shares its bay with mains-voltage parts.
- Forcing the ejector round by hand to free an obstruction strips the gear teeth that drive it, which converts a clear-out into a parts job.
- An obstruction and a failing gearbox both raise motor current, and only measuring the motor against its published limits separates them.
- Ice maker assemblies are leveled on mounting pins, and one hung back crooked jams against the bin on the very next harvest.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
