What Fault 4 Means
Fault 4 means the motor control module read its heat source option link and got an invalid result. That link is how the module knows whether it is driving an electric or a gas dryer, and F&P gives one remedy: replace the motor control module.
Common Causes of Fault 4
- A module unable to read its own heat source configuration link
- A module fitted from a different heat source variant
- Damage to the option link circuit on the module
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Not an owner adjustment. If the dryer has recently had a module fitted, that context is the most useful thing you can give a technician, because a module from the wrong heat source variant produces this immediately.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On a gas dryer, shut off the gas supply at the appliance valve before any work near the burner or its controls, and switch the electrical supply off at the breaker as well.
- A module that does not know whether it is driving gas or electric heat is not a machine to run while you find out.
- The heat source link is internal to the module, so there is no external plug to check or move.
- Parts for this platform are no longer current in the United States, which makes ordering by exact reference the practical route.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
