What Fault 7 Means

Fault 7 records excessive motor current. F&P's remedies start with freeing up the dryer or removing an overload, then move to the motor control module and finally to the motor - which tells you the first suspicion is mechanical drag rather than electrical failure.

Common Causes of Fault 7

  • An overloaded drum
  • Worn drum rollers or bearings creating drag
  • A failing drive motor or motor control module

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch off at the breaker, then take out about a third of the load and turn the drum by hand. A drum that drags or grinds is doing exactly what the code describes.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Isolate the dryer at the breaker before reaching behind the drum, because the motor and the heater share the same supply.
  • Drum rollers are pressed onto shafts and refitted with retaining clips, and one clip left off releases the roller mid-cycle.
  • An overload and a dragging bearing both raise motor current, and only running the dryer empty separates them.
  • Continuing to run an overloaded dryer puts the same excess current through the module every cycle.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

Fault 7 FAQ

If clothes do not tumble freely and fall through the airflow, the drum is too full - which raises motor current and lengthens drying at the same time.

Very likely. A squeal usually means a roller or idler bearing is failing, and that drag is exactly what pushes motor current up.
