What 243 Means
Fault 243 is a stepper test failure: the module commanded the motor through a controlled step and the motor did not reach the correct position. F&P's checks are the rotor position harness continuity and the motor harness connections, which points the investigation at wiring before parts.
Common Causes of 243
- A break in the rotor position sensor harness
- A motor harness connector not fully engaged
- A motor or module unable to execute a controlled step
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug and turn the drum by hand to confirm it moves freely. A drum that rotates normally makes a wiring or sensing problem far more likely than a mechanical one.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before the motor harness is reached, because the stator connections carry mains-level current.
- The step test is a controlled movement, so a harness problem that lets the machine run roughly will still fail this test - it is a sensitive check.
- Connector pins on these harnesses bend easily, and one pushed back in its housing gives an intermittent problem that is harder to trace than the original.
- Continuity has to be measured with the machine de-energised and the connectors parted, which is not a check to attempt on a live machine.
