What 6 (SmartDrive) Means
Fault 6 means the controlling module has received an incorrect signal from the pressure sensor. On Phase 1 machines that module is the display; on later phases the same role sits with the motor control module, which is why F&P names both in its problem source column.
Common Causes of 6 (SmartDrive)
- A pressure tube delivering the wrong pressure to the sensor
- A sensor producing a signal outside what the module accepts
- A failure in the module's sensing input
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Make sure the drum has emptied, then unplug and check the thin pressure tube is pushed home on both spigots and running without a kink. A tube problem reaches the sensor as a bad signal.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Take the machine off supply before the console or the tube run is reached, because the sensing circuit shares its housing with mains-fed electronics.
- Which board carries the sensor differs by phase, so identifying the phase comes before deciding what to test.
- An incorrect signal and an absent one are different problems with different codes, and treating them alike sends the wrong part out.
- Tube that has hardened with age splits when it is pushed back onto a spigot, and it is not a part most owners can source for a platform this old.
