Fisher & Paykel’s cooktops lean into the brand’s understated design language — slim touch controls and a clean glass or steel surface with very little visible hardware — which means the electronics doing the actual work sit tucked underneath rather than in an obvious control box. A single zone that won’t heat, or touch controls that stop responding, usually comes down to a specific sensor or control module rather than a problem in the glass or burner itself.
On gas cooktops, we more often see mechanical issues — an igniter that clicks without lighting, or a burner port blocked with spilled food or moisture — since gas ignition is largely mechanical rather than electronic. Our technicians diagnose both induction electronics and gas ignition parts on-site, without needing to pull the cooktop from the countertop in most cases.
The rest of the range behaves differently again, and the distinction is worth drawing before anyone assumes their cooktop is beyond help. A radiant electric model heats a coil beneath ceramic glass and simply does that or fails to: there is no pan detection and no inverter standing between the control and the heat, so a dead element points at the element or the relay switching it and very little else. An induction zone, by contrast, can refuse a pan for reasons that are not errors at all, which is why the two are never diagnosed the same way. A teppanyaki plate is judged on how evenly it browns across its surface rather than on whether a ring lights. And the downdraft model carries a system no other cooktop here has — a fan and filters drawing through a slot in the middle of the glass into ducting that runs below the floor or behind the cabinetry. Filters are the part to stay on top of there, because whatever gets past them ends up somewhere considerably harder to reach.
